Reports suggest Chelsea are prepared to secure a deal for RC Lens wing-back Jonathan Clauss now.

According to The Express, the Blues are set to complete a deal following the French club announcing the signing of Jimmy Cabot from Angers.

Clauss was featuring in the third division of French football as recently as 2017, although has broken through to become one of the most consistent players in Ligue 1.

He has been named in the league’s team of the season for the last two years, outing prior Chelsea target Achraf Hakimi this time round.

He has developed his game to become a sensational wing-back, with current head coach Franck Haise describing him as having the ‘perfect’ attributes for the role.

This has obviously attracted interest from Thomas Tuchel’s men, with the German likely to operate a three-at-the-back formation again next season

This, alongside Lens investing already, has given Chelsea the green light to get the deal done, with talks already underway according to The Express.

With the France international having just a year left on his contract, the report suggests the Blues could get the transfer over the line for as little as £10m.
